WIL DARCANGELO: Music

3. Come Fly with Me

(WIL DARCANGELO)
music by Jimmy Van Heusen, lyrics by Sammy Cain
In the recording studio, I had to really cajole my woodwind player - the exceptionally talented Zach Chadwick - to pull out his clarinet and lay out the solos Benny Goodman-style for this track. He was unconvinced even though clarinet is his first instrument. I gave him 10 minutes in the sound booth to work out the line and then he did it in two takes. This is now one of my favorite tracks on the entire album.
COME FLY WITH ME

Come fly with me! Let’s fly, let’s fly away!
If you could use some exotic booze,
There’s a bar across the way.
Come fly with me! Let’s fly, let’s fly away!

Come fly with me, let’s float down to Peru!
In Llama Land there’s a one man band
And he’ll toot his flute for you,
Come fly with me! Let’s take off in the blue!

Once I get you up there, where the air is rarified,
We’ll just glide starry-eyed.
Once I get you up there, I’ll be holding you so near,
We just may hear angels cheer cause we’re together

Weather-wise it’s such a lovely day.
Just say the words and we’ll beat the birds
Down to Acapulco Bay.
It’s perfect for a flying honeymoon, they say.
Come fly with me let’s fly, let’s fly away!
